Stoneville June 2023 Stats Workshop Syllabus

This is a schedule for the June 2023 stats workshops to be held in hybrid in-person/virtual format in Stoneville, Mississippi. The exact times may change for the final schedule, so please check back here for updates.

DAY 1: Wednesday, June 14, 2023

9:00-9:30 AM Introductions All personnel are welcome. Quentin will give a brief 5 to 10 minute presentation about himself and what he can offer scientists, then take any questions. In any remaining time, we will troubleshoot issues with R installation for people participating in the workshops.
9:30-10:30 AM R Boot Camp Lesson 1 Note: This will be a repeat of content from the December 2022 workshop. It is intended for people who are complete beginners to R. We will not be doing any statistics, just learning how to use R. If you feel comfortable with basic R and want to get straight to the stats, you can feel free to skip these lessons.

1:30 PM-2:30 PM Statistical models in R for SAS Users, part 1: the basics Note: it is not required for you to know any SAS to participate in this lesson, but all the R code I will present will have side-by-side SAS code for comparison.

9:00-10:15 AM Statistical models in R for SAS users, part 2: fitting mixed models and making predictions As with the previous lesson, SAS knowledge is not required. We will compare all R code side-by-side with SAS code.

10:45 AM-12:00 PM Office Hours This is an opportunity to bring in your own data and work on it. Quentin will help out and answer questions, or review any topics from the lessons that people still need help with.
